Seems the greatest killer of endangered species in India after the poachers is its railway department, they have a regular habit of mowing down elephants, now another species has made its inclusion in their hitlist- the extremely endangered lions.
The officials of Gir Sanctuary are saying that their sanctuary is overflowing with lions, so they are committing suicide on railway tracks.
Most probably these creatures try to feed on the animals mowed down by trains and get killed while eating… is it really impossible to avoid these accidents? May be, the forest officials can appoint people near the railway tracks to remove those dead animals? Just a little idea…
or relocate the excess lions to other suitable places in place of letting them die.
